Abstract:
The essay explores the phenomenon of “emerging nostalgia” among adolescents and young adults through content analysis of nostalgic material on the social media platform TikTok and the YouTube project “Popkult.” The essay examines how childhood memories serve as a means of coping with crises and social instability. Comment analysis reveals that nostalgia functions to sustain both personal and collective identity. The study draws on the concepts of reflective and restorative nostalgia, as well as the theory of collective memory. Emphasis is placed on how accelerated social change and crises drive an increased interest in the past.
