Measuring the Family’s Crisis Level

The article describes a method of measuring the crisis situation of the family, developed by charitable fund Korchakovsky Center (now the Foundation for Socio-Cultural Programs «Resources»). The method gives results in numerical form that gives us opportunity to provide an accurate representation of the level of distress in the family.

 

Actual Problems of Domestic Sociological Childhood Research

The review of domestic sociological researches of the childhood on materials of the magazine “Sociological Researches” during 1990— 2014 is presented in the article. The review allows to designate the leading subjects of childhood’s studying, empirical problems of the organization, carrying out and interpretation of the obtained data, to characterize researches from the point of view of their localization, duration, age groups of children-informants, the methods of collecting and data processing. Difficulties of children’s studying are connected both with the empirical level of research, and with its theoretical and methodological bases, with development of sociology of the childhood as branch science. The Russian sociology of the childhood has problems of status uncertainty, dissociation of scientific community, an insufficient inclu- siveness of young researchers. All these problems slow down development of the methodological bases of sociological researches of the childhood. In conclusion of article it is submitted recommendations about strengthening of childhood sociology’s status positions.

 

Children with Orphans and Children growing up in the Family: a Comparative Analysis of the Prevalence of Violence

The article contains the comparative analysis of child abuse incidence between orphans and children in families. The data were obtained with adapted version of International Child Abuse Screening Tool - Children version (ICAST-C). Orphans are significantly more often suffer from psychological and physical abuse in forms of severe discipline, fights, beating, harassment, threatening, humiliation and cursing. All forms of sexual abuse are equally represented in both groups. At school, orphan children are vulnerable to repeated acts of aggression from peers and to severe discipline methods from teachers.

 

On the issue of Developing a Methodology for Assessing the Prevalence of Violence against Children

The article covers the main methodological challenges of studying child abuse scale, connected to principal definitions, data collection obstacles, research procedure and interpreting the results. In order to get a valid estimation of child abuse scale, it is needed to have a complex of official statistics on children’s situation in Russia, public and professional surveys, and psychological research of children with their social environment. All studies must follow ethical norms, keep participation voluntary, and prevent secondary traumatization. Organizing and fulfilling the research require special training of both researchers and data collectors.

 

Factors Influencing the Formation of Responsible Parenthood in Families Affected by HIV Infection

This publication is dedicated to the issues of development of recommendations and wide implementation of the measures, devoted to prevention of risks of violation of child-parent relationships among women, who learned their diagnosis «HIV infection» during pregnancy, and assistance in preparing for the maternal role. Also, it draws attention to the fact, that the legislation framework concerning issues of registration of adoption and guardianship by people with diagnosis, involving some risk of complications of chronic somatic diseases, is outdated and does not take into account the specifics of the course and development of the HIV infection, social portrait, high parental potential of women who accepted the diagnosis.

 

Evaluation of Impact of HIV Prevention Programs by Adolescents at High Risk of Getting HIV

Article describes results of the study aimed at evaluation of impact of HIV prevention programs implemented in vocational schools from the point of view of adolescents who took part in these programs. The research was conducted in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad in April 2015. It was based on RE-AIM model. To collect the data focus groups with adolescents aged from 16 to 18 years old were conducted. The research has shown that even though the reach of adolescents by prevention programs is relatively high and prevention activities are conducted in vocational schools on a regular basis, adolescents regard these interventions as dull and ineffective. The article describes factors which from the point of view of adolescents reduce the effectiveness of HIV prevention, suggests what could be done to increase the effectiveness of preventive work, provides recommendations for stakeholders involved into HIV prevention among adolescents at high risk of getting HIV.

 

Experience of a Sociological Survey of Children Living in State Care Institutions

В последние годы, как в России, так и за рубежом растет интерес к вопросам детства и расширяется круг лиц, заинтересованных в получении актуальной информации о детях. Необходимость в таких знаниях имеется у органов социальной защиты, молодежной политики, образования, уполномоченных по правам ребенка, специалистов в сфере оценки проектов и программ. В статье рассматривается опыт организации опроса воспитанников детских домов на тему их благополучия и соблюдения прав. На основе проведенного эмпирического исследования изучаются факторы надежности и валидности опроса детей, а также условия их повышения. Приводятся рекомендации по проведению опроса детей, а также направления дальнейшего развития применения опросных методов в детской аудитории.

 

Approaches to the Evaluation of the Main Parameters of the Health of Children-Orphans and Children Left Without Parental Care

In the article the possibilities of using different data sources and methodologies for assessing the health status of orphans and children deprived of parental care. The complexity of the evaluation and associated with a variety of objects and subjects of evaluation. It is advisable to use a set of data: statistical reporting, data sampling surveys and departmental accounting, qualitative research, expert interviews. Methodological approaches Children’s Fund UNICEF, the world health organization allow you to create a system of indicators for the analysis of health status. Important role in the analysis of health status of children left without parental care in Russia is played by with 2013 the clinical examination of various categories of children. Analysis of indicators of child morbidity, disability and mortality suggests the health problems of children-orphans, living in institutions.

 

Cross System Analysis between Russia and US Child Protection System

This cross cultural system analysis describes the Russian and U.S. child protection systems with reference to the legal, terminological difficulty matching, in view the social attitudes of the society. The article provides an overview of the goals, laws, and processes of the Russian and U.S. Child Welfare systems, a brief overview of each country’s evolution of child protection policies. The comparison is carried out on the parameters of the system of prevention of social orphanhood and family placement of children-orphans. Current national data is provided when available from national sources and author’s monitorings.

 

Biographical Research of the Value and Attitude Structure of the Lifeworld

The article describes the methodological solution for biographical research of the lifeworld. This solution is based on a methodological position that the communicative situation of autobiographical narrative provides a lifeworld representation in the process of its rationalization and articulation. Reconstruction of values and attitudes is realized on representation of life events in autobiographical narratives. Methodological solution requires a comprehensive approach to the collection of sociological data (autobiography and projective autobiographical essay). Biographical research maintains descriptive and structural analysis of the value and attitude structure of the lifeworld.

The article provides a review of foreign studies devoted to the issues of fatherhood, considers the variations of conceptualisation of fatherhood and various typologies of the phenomenon, highlights the key problems and perspectives of the development of this research field in the context of modern transformations in the sphere of family.

 

Evolution of Russian Households Structure: an attempt to explain

It is considered the current trends in the Russian households structure and their negative consequences in terms of the reproduction. The increse of the single-patent families and other households is explained by gender inequalities and strengthening the internal migration. The article is based on materials of the official Russian statistics, first of all, the All-Russian population census of 2002 and 2010.

 

Contemporary Experience of Russian Muslim Polygamous Families: Narrative Analysis

The article is devoted polygamous family in contemporary Russian Muslims. We investigate the questions of how polygamous family is perceived by Muslims, what emotions the Russian Muslim men and women are experiencing, what motives they are driven. These problems are considered on the examples of islam.ru site materials for 2009-2015. We conclude that contemporary Russian Muslim community with difficulty implements the idea of polygamy. Public assessment of this phenomenon is rather negative than positive. This is partly caused by the experience of Soviet and Russian system of education with its specific individualism and self-importance of women in family and society, the romanticizing of love and marriage, as well as the existence of the system of education in the context of Christian tradition in Russia, with its view of marriage as a sacred union of one man and one woman.

Social Inequality as the Norm

The growth of social inequality in the world, its reproduction in a larger scale makes it important purpose on the level of individual consciousness and everyday ideas. The analysis of data in the international research project «EUREQUAL: Social Inequality and Why it Matters for the Economic and Democratic Development of Europe and its Citizens: Post-Communist Central and Eastern Europe in Comparative Perspective» demonstrated a closeness of the images about social inequality in post-Soviet European countries. Semantic unity of this phenomenon speaks rather about deep normative line, which was formed not under the influence of changes, but as a result of continu ous transformation processes in consciousness, which started long before crucial demolition of societal order in these countries. Focus-group discussions on social inequality and quality represented inequality as a norm, and equality as a deviation. Problematic field in the picture of respondents is formed around the configuration of social inequality in their societies.

 

The Non-Profit Sector as a Source of Social Capital and Resource for Social Mobility. By Setting the Research Objectives

This article analyzes the new sociology of the nonprofit sector approach - consideration of public initiatives and non-profit organizations as a source of non-monetary social capital (Bourdieu, Koul-man) and as a resource for individual intragenerational social mobility. It argued the relevance and analytical capabilities of this approach, including in correlation with the current Russian context. It presents reflections on possible methodological approach to the empirical study of these issues through the analysis of professional biographies of the representatives of the NGO sector.

Based on the survey data and in-depth interviews conducted in 2013-2014. in St. Petersburg the thesis of the specificity of innovators as a socio-professional group confirmed. The substantiation of types of resources of a professional group is given. The place of the innovators in the labor market is shown.

 

Labour Legislation and the Real Labour Relations Practices

Reveals contradictions between the labor legislation and practices. A detailed explanation of the legal implications of «illegal practices» is given. The role of employers, allowing some variation in the employment relationship underlined. Particular attention is paid to the problem of failure to leave. The conclusion about the presence of employees sufficiently broad legal rights, but inability to use them is made.

 

Consolidation of Local Communities in a Situation of Challenging Urban Spaces of St. Petersburg

The problem of unequal access of different social groups to spatial resources of a large city and emerging with alternatives is discussed (on example of St. Petersburg). The question looked into is how the decisions taken by the administrative meet the needs of the citizens and specific life situations.

 

Pathological Variations of Transdisciplinary Mobility in Modern Science

The social and economic processes in modern science determine the future of countries and regions. Reduced productivity of the scientific community, the slow development of innovation, the degradation of the scientific staff of reproduction system in universities and scientific schools dramatically reduce the competitiveness and security of any state. Threats to the well-being of science engender the spread of pseudo-science, the general decline in the scientific culture of the population. This problem is not only in front of the Russian scientific community. «Marginal» and «pseudo-science», in particular embodiments, «postmodern philosophy», has won some of the public space. The spread of this influence, some authors, such as E. P. Kruglyakov, A. juice Jean Bricmont [36], quite successfully counteract. This article examines the genesis and rasproctranenie pseudoscience as a social phenomenon, with examples from the history of the domestic institutions «psychology» and «psychotherapy».

 

Innovations in city planning: network interaction of science and business

In the article the practices of science and business network interactions are analyzed by the results of conducted empirical research. The heads and leading experts exercising strategic control of the organization have acted as an object of the research. Problems detection of innovative town planning development and specifics interaction between the scientific organizations and business structures was a main objective. These interactions are resulted by the social capital exchange bringing in turn to the material and economical capital exchange. For this reason the social capital including information about network (market) participants, their economic relationship and the products made by them is so important. It becomes that value, concerning which the exchange between the scientific and business structures is made.

The Research Center for Cultural Exclusion and Frontier Zones of the Sociological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences is designed for an interdisciplinary study of the processes of «alienation» (marginalization) of cultural values, events, meanings, as well as the phenomenon of cultural borderland, as a meeting place and the interaction of different cultural traditions. Besides the analysis of modern mechanisms of repression and neglect of cultural experience, material of historical, philosophical, literary and artistic studies is used.
